Boulder, CO

Natural Foods Manufacturer
Position Title:
Regional Sales Representative
Client Testimonial
“Handing over sales was one of the hardest decisions I've made because I had built the business through those customer relationships. Dan and Chandler understood exactly what I was looking for, and by the end of the process I felt completely confident stepping away from that responsibility.”
Challenge:
The founder of a growing natural foods company had built the business through years of personal selling.
She had developed a sales process that worked. The approach was simple, personal, and repeatable: visit restaurants and specialty retailers, introduce the product, leave samples, follow a proven script, and build relationships over time.
As the company grew, she needed to hand off day-to-day sales so she could focus on other priorities, including moving the business into a larger production facility.
She was clear about the type of person she wanted. The right hire needed to be friendly, dependable, and coachable. She specifically did not want an experienced salesperson who had “been there and done that” and would try to replace the system she had worked hard to build.
Solution:
We built the search around coachability, natural warmth, and the ability to follow a proven process.
We focused on recent graduates from the University of Colorado who had worked in restaurants during college and earned degrees in business, marketing, communications, or related fields.
Their restaurant experience mattered. They already understood how to talk with customers, work with urgency, represent a brand, and stay positive in a fast-moving environment.
To attract volume, we used Handshake, targeted job boards, and LinkedIn Job Slots. We then screened candidates for work ethic, communication skills, and interest in building a career in outside sales.
The finalists completed our Candidate Value Index assessments. This helped us identify candidates who were naturally warm, relationship-oriented, and comfortable following instructions.
Outcome
- ▸ We recommended someone with restaurant experience, a naturally engaging personality, and who had the discipline to follow the established sales process
- ▸ We presented candidates who could walk into stores and restaurants, start conversations, leave samples, and follow up successfully
- ▸ The client hired someone who could do these tasks, allowing the founder to focus more of her attention on the company’s growth
